
Wilderness First Aid will teach basic first aid skills and techniques utilized in the wilderness environment.

The topics covered in this course include, but are not limited to: patient assessment, medical emergencies, shock, soft tissue injuries, burns, specific area injuries, heat and cold emergencies, poisons, bites and stings, patient packaging, rescue team concepts, rescue team communication skills and legal aspects. (CE hours available)
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:
· Assess and treat a patient without placing themselves in danger.
· Identify life-threatening conditions that require immediate care.
· Examine a patient in an orderly manner.
· Provide immediate care for both traumatic injuries and medical conditions
commonly encountered in the wilderness and backcountry.
· Assess the vitals on a patient.
· Identify the difference between a symptom and a sign.
· Safely protect the c-spine on a suspected injured patient.
· Correctly identify the injury and package accordingly.
· Demonstrate and describe the parts of the secondary exam.
· Identify the nature of the emergency based on the information gathered.
· Be able to treat soft tissue injuries based on the information gathered.
· Demonstrate skills in splinting, bandaging, c-spine protection and shock.
This will award 16 hours in the areas of:
